Where to Stay in Florence

The best neighbourhoods, hotels and booking tips

Florence is a compact city — almost everything worth seeing is within walking distance of the Duomo. The best hotels cluster in the historic centre and across the Arno in the Oltrarno neighbourhood, which offers more atmosphere and slightly better value. Parking in Florence is a bureaucratic ordeal; arrive by train and stay near the centre.

Booking Tips for Florence

  1. 1Book Uffizi and Accademia tickets online at least two weeks in advance in peak season — the queues without pre-booking can exceed three hours.
  2. 2The Oltrarno is less than ten minutes' walk from the Duomo over the Ponte Vecchio — staying there gives you a more local experience at meaningfully lower prices.
  3. 3Most of Florence's best restaurants are small and don't take reservations; aim to arrive at opening time (7:30–8pm) or accept a wait.
  4. 4The Duomo dome climb requires a separate ticket to the cathedral entry — buy the full combined ticket that includes the dome, baptistery, museum and campanile.
