Where to Stay in Vienna

The best neighbourhoods, hotels and booking tips

Vienna takes hotels seriously — the city has more historic grand hotels than anywhere outside Paris, and even mid-range boutiques tend to come with hidden libraries or in-house coffee houses. Pick the neighbourhood, then pick the room.

Booking Tips for Vienna

  1. 1Book three months ahead for May–June and the December markets — both periods sell out early.
  2. 2Most central hotels include the city tax (3.2%) in the room rate, but always confirm at booking.
  3. 3The U-Bahn is excellent, but staying inside the Ringstrasse means you'll barely use it — save the money on transport, spend it on accommodation.
  4. 4Coffee-house culture matters here: pick a hotel near a historic café (Sperl, Central, Demel) and you'll have a daily ritual.
