Where to Stay in Mykonos

The best neighbourhoods, hotels and booking tips

Mykonos's hotel market is split into two: walkable boutique stays in Chora (the old town), or beach-club resorts on the south coast. The right answer depends entirely on whether you want late nights in town or long days on a sunbed.

Best Areas to Stay in Mykonos

Mykonos Town (Chora)

Luxury

Whitewashed lanes, harbour-side cocktails, windmills at sunset — best for atmosphere

Best for: Walkers, drinkers, photographers

Ornos

Mid-range

Sheltered south-coast beach with calmer water — family-friendlier than the party beaches

Best for: Families, calmer stays

Platis Gialos

Mid-range

Long beach lined with hotels and restaurants, plus the boats out to the south-coast beach clubs

Best for: Beach-club beach-hoppers, all-inclusive style

Booking Tips for Mykonos

  1. 1Book seven to eight months ahead for July and August — Mykonos sells out earlier than almost any Greek island.
  2. 2Hotels in Chora rarely have parking; if you rent a car, factor an extra €15–€25 per day in paid lots.
  3. 3Sunbed prices on the south coast vary wildly — €30 a pair at Ornos, €200+ at Nammos. Check before sitting down.
  4. 4If you don't intend to party, avoid late June through August — the island prices, queues and music levels are all calibrated for the party crowd.
