Where to Stay in Barcelona

The best neighbourhoods, hotels and booking tips

Barcelona has hotels for every budget and style, from design boutiques in the Gothic Quarter's medieval lanes to grand seafront towers on the Barceloneta beach. The city's neighbourhoods each have a distinct personality: the Gothic Quarter for history, Eixample for Gaudí and upscale dining, Gràcia for a local village feel, and Barceloneta for sun and seafood. Book well in advance for July, August and Mobile World Congress in February.

Booking Tips for Barcelona

  1. 1Las Ramblas hotels are loud and overpriced — the Gothic Quarter and El Born are two minutes' walk and far more pleasant.
  2. 2Barcelona is a late city: dinner before 9pm marks you as a tourist, and the best bars don't warm up until midnight.
  3. 3The T-Casual ten-journey metro card covers buses too and costs a fraction of individual tickets — buy one at any metro station.
  4. 4Sagrada Família tickets must be booked online in advance; tower access sells out first and gives the best views of Gaudí's construction.
